I Build Capability
“The Chinese proverb ‘give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime’ perfectly sums up my leadership approach.
I did this the first time when I was five years old, teaching another pupil in the classroom how to tie his shoelaces: teach a man to fish!
I spend a lot of time learning new things and I want to share it all with the people I engage with. In my mind, ‘teaching you to fish’ is building your capability and I put that forward in my coaching, teaching, management and speaking activities.
During the day, I am an Associate Professor at Torrens University where I co-direct the MBA suite of programs and direct the Business Information Systems (BIS) suite of programs.
I love working in a vibrant and constantly changing university—it’s like a giant startup—where plenty of things are happening for the first time. I am able to lead through my comfort with ambiguity, building trust and confidence in others as I go.
Best of all, I get to travel, meet and work with other like-minded, enthusiastic professionals - who each share my passion for business, growing and learning - right across our beautiful, sunburnt and ever-evolving country.”
